Welcome all to The Dance Bar 2011, curated by Kate Elswit.

"Dance Bars as Platforms for Engagement"
Curators of conventional performance festivals bring together performances that have a certain cultural capital. Attendees sit within their own experiences in often-dark spaces and tend to debrief only afterwards, reacting to the encounter more communally in bars or over dinner. Dance Bars stage that bar interaction as the main event. Within this space, the curators of Dance Bars choose guests who work with ideas that have potency within the historical moment, but the guests themselves are not the primary focus. They are themselves the platform for dialogues among Dance Bar participants.

New format - again!
With feedback from the fall season we continue to develop the format towards more continuity and in-depth encounters. The format still allows you to participate in different ways.
